Japan Tsunami and Missionary Update
All of us are saddened as we see more nuclear reactor problems and the pictures of devastation from our beloved Japan. The NAB has more than 50 years in Japan and we are responding to the crisis through our missionaries and associated relief agencies.
First, all of our NAB missionaries in Japan are safe. Each of them minister at least 500 miles from the affected areas. 500 miles is far beyond the critical range of the earthquake, tsunami and the radiation leak from the damaged nuclear power plant. In ongoing communication with our missionary team we are assured that there is no reason to be concerned for the health and well being of our missionaries. If conditions change and there is a need to assist or evacuate our missionaries, we will not hesitate to do so.
There is a need for Emergency Relief funds
The NAB has already responded and continues to respond with emergency relief funds that are received through our churches. Within 24 hours of the catastrophe our rescue and relief teams from Baptist World Aid were on the ground. We work directly with BWAid including annual meetings each January. We continue to receive reports of their relief efforts and the needs for funds. We have already forwarded money and will continue to do so through our missionaries and associated relief agencies.
