Ron grew up in a Christian family (General Conference Baptist) in the Twin Cities of Minnesota. He trusted Jesus Christ as Savior when he was nine years old, during Vacation Bible School. Ron first felt God calling him into Christian ministry while in high school, and committed his life to God fully while a junior at Princeton University. God then led Ron to Faith Theological Seminary and Biblical Theological Seminary in the Philadelphia area.
Like Ron, Jeannie grew up in a biblical Christian home. After her father died, when she was four years old, Jeannie asked Jesus to be her Savior and Lord.
While Ron was at Princeton, Jeannie was studying at Moore College of Art, with a passion to share Christ through creative artistic efforts. It was at this time that they met and married. The couple set their hearts on serving the Lord as creative artists, and essentially doing missional work using their skills and training.

Family History
Jerilyn says, "Growing up in Brazil was the best thing for me. As a family, we always served together. We would go on evangelistic meetings, sing together, share and Dad would preach. Whenever an altar call was given, we would all counsel -- my mom counseled the women; my dad, the men; my brother, the boys; and I would counsel the girls. These special meetings warmed my heart and I knew I wanted to lead people to Christ as long as I lived." The Bayers were appointed to Brazil in 1983, and they are involved in directing Chain of Love: Children Abandoned and In Need of Love Homes.
