The North American Baptist Conference is asking NAB churches and individuals to pray for those in Southern Alberta who continue to recover from recent flooding that has brought devastation to the region. The floodwaters have caused significant damage to communities and neighborhoods in geographically lower lying areas. Though the water is slowly subsiding, many will experience the impact of this disaster for months to come. The damage from the flooding has displaced individuals, families, churches, and businesses. Most areas will need significant clean up before people can return.

For many, summer affords a season of outdoor refreshment and personal replenishment. God is so good to provide us times to slow our personal paces and find times truly to enjoy Him. As you think of and pray for the ministries of the North American Baptist Conference over the next weeks, here are some items to bring to mind:

Our thoughts and prayers go to all affected by the recent horrific tornado in Oklahoma. As North American Baptists, we mourn with those who mourn and desire to bear the burdens of those who hurt. NAB is accepting donations for Oklahoma disaster relief. Our direct partnership with the North American Baptist Fellowship Disaster Response Network allows us to obtain information about the most pressing needs for the people impacted by the tornado. NAB will forward these donations to trusted Baptist and evangelical organizations who are directly serving the individuals and the communities reeling from the Oklahoma tornado.

Leadership Development Leadership development remains a top priority at the NAB. Identifying, coaching, and training the next generation of leaders—whether they are age 22 or 72—will help our churches and mission fields to flourish for the glory of God for decades to come. Join us for the next Leadership Teleconference on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, starting at 10:00 a.m. (PST). Our next book for discussion is Deep Mentoring: Guiding Others on Their Leadership, authored by Randy Reese and Rob Loane. The publisher of the book, IVP Press, summarizes the book this way:

Everyday Church Initiative The North American Baptist Conference wants to invite your church to join an exciting journey of missional engagement in the upcoming year with a host of other NAB churches. In 2012, Tim Chester and Steve Timmis wrote a book based upon 1 Peter that is a great tool for helping your congregation learn to live life and serve others at the margins. The writing is theologically sound and very practical. To accompany this book, usable resources have been created for churches across Canada and the U.S. Our hope is that NAB churches will use this book as a discussion tool with church leaders, and then use the book and materials to guide a preaching series in the fall.

Dear Ministry Friends, For years, NAB has been training church leaders in Russia. God is at work in Russia, drawing people to Himself, and has been gracious to use our efforts to bring theological and ministry education to the next generation of leaders in Russian churches in the Rostov area. With the success of that ministry, we have been asked to transition our leadership development efforts to another area of Russia.  With nine time zones—Russia recently merged time zones from eleven to nine—moving to another ministry area in Russia is almost like moving to another nation. This is exciting ministry. NAB is grateful to God for new open doors and wanted to let you know about these changes so you can pray passionately for our new opportunities. Here is some information you will want to know:

As the end of the year draws near, many will wish to give to the ministries of the North American Baptists, generously planting seeds for our missionaries and churches to preach the gospel, in word and deed, throughout the world in 2013. We are grateful to God for those who so faithfully spread God’s love through financially supporting NAB’s ministries. Thank you for giving! As you consider donating to NAB in tax year 2012, here are a few factors to keep in mind to make sure that we are able to give you a tax receipt for calendar year 2012:
